Open Pickleball Play
11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Green Tree Municipal Center Gym
FREE! Just show up and play!
Take part in Green Tree open Pickleball Wednesdays! Pickleball is a great game for all ages, combining bits and pieces from tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. Two or four players (or more) can play, using solid paddles and a plastic wiffle-type ball. The ball moves more slowly than tennis or ping-pong (about 1/3 the speed of a tennis ball) and makes a game that proceeds at a slower, easier pace.
As a result, pickleball can be played by all ages. It is very easy to learn. Green Tree Borough has the gym, the net, the paddles, and the ball. After a few minutes of instruction, a beginner can enjoy a game with a more experienced player. You just need to show up to play and there will be others to help or learn alongside.
Pickleball was created in 1965 in Bainbridge Island in Washington State, near Seattle, and can be played inside or outside using a badminton-sized court space.
Click here to review the official Pickleball rules. A copy of these rules will be available at the Green Tree Municipal Center Gym on Pickleball days, but it wouldn't hurt to review them prior to arrival at the gym. Players will have to sign a Statement of Understanding & Release prior to the start of each Pickleball session, but the play is FREE!
Because of the smaller court used in Pickleball and the slower-moving ball that is used, people with varying degrees of mobility can play side-by-side competitively. It has a "non-volley" near the net to equalize play and prevent smashing the ball over the net.
Come by on a Wednesday morning between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. and join in the Green Tree Pickleball fun! It's free!
